They say a good uncle or aunt is like a second parent and that’s very true as far as this story is concerned.
Vlaimir was born to immigrant parents who travelled to the US after war broke out in their native country of Kosovo.
He arrived in the US together with them. But, lost both parents on the same to a devastating wind storm when the roof of their building imploded and killed the couple.
He was then on summer vacation so his life was spared and his kind uncle stepped up to the plate to care for the sad and lonely teenager. The two developed a bond so close that most people thought Jared was his father.
Before long, he turned 18 years old on the same day he lost his mom and dad and his uncle felt he needed to do something that will not only honor the memory of his parents but also celebrate the life of his nephew in a very special way.
After carefully considering several options, he decided that the best way to do that was to tell a little story about his nephew’s life in a birthday speech. But he had a problem. He wasn’t so good with words.
But after picking bits and pieces of information from here and there, he came up with the following short birthday message for his beloved nephew.
Please note: This example can also be used even if you are aunt of the birthday celebrant.
By the way, I am going to break this example down bit by bit so you can figure out how to write your own birthday toast for your nephew or niece even if you think you are not cut out for speaking in public.

Good evening everyone and thanks for coming. Although Vlaimir is my nephew, I have always considered him a son because he brings so much joy to my life in a way nothing else does and I feel so grateful and blessed to be his uncle.
Vlaimir came into our lives 21 years ago. He was my first nephew and the first grandchild on each side of the life and we were beyond excited to meet him. I was particularly proud as punch to be an uncle for the very first time.
Come to think of it. Even though it was one of the best days of life, I felt rather nervous like a deer caught in the headlights (I actually looked like one too) when my sister Evelyn handed the little baby over to me and I held him so tight in my arms for fear of dropping him like a litle stone.
From an early age, Vlaimir was a curious, happy, adventurous and active little boy who loved to soccer. I still remember with pride how he ran like a beast on the field when we went to watch him play in the local soccer derby.
He played very well and it was a very special moment for me to see him running around in the same colors as his other uncle Jim and I did for our very last club before retiring from the game.
The talented soccer player has since won several awards both at club and school, inspired his siblings and cousins to improve upon their games, as well making representative teams. Let me say that he is the next soccer in the making!
Vlaimir has always been very quiet and unassuming. When I say that, I do not mean in the sense that he’s a pushover or can be walked on, but he's very smart. But he's always been good natured, and would think of others before himself.
He knows how to massage pretty well. He genuinely has a magic touch! Let this arthritic old uncle tell you, when Vlaimir puts on his "family chiropractor" hat and starts with the massaging, you feel 20 years old again!
Vlaimir, I am glad to see you celebrate one more year of life; it is good to see you look so happy. You are the pride of your parents and my heart too. I am sure they are so proud of you and would have been the proudest parents if they were still around today.
As we celebrate your special birthday, I just want to reassure you that I will always be there for you. As you grow, please live your dreams without trampling on anyone. Live in the present without looking back and without worrying about the future because today is the only day that counts.

Fourth, if most of the birthday party guests are Christians or you are a bible believing Christian, you can begin with a prayer of gratitude to God for adding another year to your nephew or niece’s life.
Fifth, you can make the occasion very memorable by presenting your nephew or niece a very unique birthday gift before you even start with your toast. Can you think of more perfect gift that will suit this purpose?
