7 Weeks Pregnant With Twins or Multiples
Being seven weeks pregnant with twins is one of the greatest feelings for a young mother and a totally different ballgame for first-time moms. All the things that you might have expected at the beginning of your pregnancy will start getting prominent around this time. Right from your pants getting tighter to having a feeling of something growing inside you, these sensations are all that govern and define the seventh week of pregnancy. The babies are at an important milestone of their own growth as well, having grown to nearly twice the size they were in the previous week.
Common Body Changes
Since a growing foetus experiences one of its largest spurts of growth around this time, the changes experienced by a pregnant woman’s body are also quite substantial.
You might feel warmer than other people and may want to turn the fan or AC on more often, which is a result of increased blood circulation within the body.
Many women tend to experience a darkening of the skin. The most prominent is the formation of a dark line near the abdomen. Other areas of the body could have small patches of pigmentation, which tend to fade away after the delivery. Even the palms of your hand could darken a shade.
The swell and fullness of the breasts will make them tender. There might even be a chance of noticing slight veins in the region. The areolas start getting darker as the nipples themselves become darker and larger in size. Tiny bumps will begin to appear around the nipples.
The uterus undergoes the biggest change as it increases in size and develops into a shape that resembles a pear. At times, it may start shifting gradually to the right of the abdomen. Such a movement can make the inner ligaments tighter than usual and can be painful if you turn your body quickly.
Ovulation stops completely at this point, and the production of newer eggs is totally closed down. The cyst that is formed by the ovaries continues to support the production of hormones and help the pregnancy sustain itself.
The vaginal discharge might also increase around this point since the blood vessels multiply rapidly. Also, the discharge increases in order to lubricate the vagina in preparation for the delivery. The discharge would be thick and white in colour since the vagina becomes slightly more acidic than usual.
The blood volume will rise to provide extra blood flow to the uterus. This increased blood volume can cause the pulse rate to increase during the second trimester of pregnancy.
By the second trimester, as your babies start occupying more space within your body, your organs move around to accommodate them. Your heart moves a little to the left. The lungs, on the other hand, tend to move upwards, causing your chest to expand a bit. This leads to the lungs expanding vertically a lot more than before, causing them to inhale and exhale a larger amount of air easily.
With so much nutrient exchange taking place within the body, the kidneys swell and end up working overtime. The toxin secretion and flushing tend to be higher, causing more sensation of urination throughout.
Although you might feel hungrier than usual, you will most likely feel satisfied after a small meal itself, due to the tendency of the stomach to empty itself at a slower rate than before. This could even result in increased instances of acid reflux in pregnant women. Lack of fibrous food items could result in constipation, which could inevitably cause haemorrhoids.
Symptoms of Twin Pregnancy at 7 Weeks
The signs of twin pregnancy at 7 weeks, tend to get quite strong around this time.
The recurrent feeling of nausea and morning sickness will increase in intensity, especially in the case of multiple babies since the hormones are secreted in a higher quantity than before.
Food cravings can reach their peak and can make you want to gorge on anything and everything in sight. Having more food than usual is absolutely fine as long as you stick to a healthy diet. On the contrary, certain women can experience strong aversions to specific food items. This could happen with foods that have a particular smell or aroma that might trigger your morning sickness and cause you to throw up. Most of these aversions are a result of hormone fluctuations and are completely normal as long as the mother keeps getting the nutrients from alternative sources. Dry food items with a light flavour such as yoghurt or biscuits can be a good way to handle the situation.
During pregnancy, some women may experience acne breakouts. However, a doctor’s advice must be taken before opting for any treatment.
Salivation increases tremendously, as a general accompaniment to the tendency of throwing up frequently. You may even drool while sleeping.
Minor cramps can be experienced by women as a result of the growing uterus. As long as the cramps are not too intense and don’t repeat frequently, you are safe.
Belly at 7 Weeks Pregnant With Twins
The sudden increase in the size of the babies within a week can be evident from the size of your belly, which will make its presence felt more than before. Some women can even observe some light lines or streaks on the skin, which could be a little reddish in colour. These are also observed on the breasts and thighs. This is the beginning of your body developing stretch marks as it prepares to accommodate the growing babies.
7 Weeks Twin Ultrasound
Most doctors would be able to let parents know by this stage if they should expect multiple babies in their pregnancy – twins, triplets, or more! Conclusive evidence may even be obtained up to two weeks prior, but this stage makes it easier for parents to come to terms with the fact as well, which is why most doctors wait until the seventh week and sometimes use the previous weeks to prepare the couple. The presence of two (or more) separate sacs can be spotted easily in the ultrasound scans of the seventh week. Although you may not be able to see much development in the shape of the babies, as long as the vital organs and physical limbs are developing in each of your babies, you can relax.
What to Eat
The seventh week of the pregnancy is usually the time where most women start experiencing cravings that you have heard of! In some cases, food items that might not have been of much interest before could suddenly feel like the most delicious food ever! Some say that cravings are the body’s way of letting you know that it needs replenishment of nutrients. For example, wanting an ice cream could be a sign of a calcium fix or looking forward to devouring a meat item could necessitate the intake of proteins.
Irrespective of cravings being intense or minimal, certain food items should be a part of your diet to ensure a balanced provision of all elements and nutrients you need. Initially, tackling a variety of food items while combating your triggers for morning sickness can be tough to navigate. Opting for certain fruits or alternatives that don’t have a strong smell can help keep you healthy.
Pregnancy Care Tips
Taking care of your pregnancy goes way beyond healthy eating and taking care of your body. A few dos and don’ts are essential in keeping you safe.
Do’s
Get your medical checkup done as soon as you can. Make sure you prepare a list of questions and doubts you might have so that you can get all the answers.
Remember to take a photograph of your belly every day or at least twice or thrice a week. Doing so can give you an idea of how your pregnancy has progressed over the past months.
Don’ts
Avoid raw food products such as meat and fish, no matter how much you crave for them. Stay safe from any infections.
Don’t opt for a weight-loss programme or restrict your diet to keep your weight under control. It could harm your baby in irreversible ways.
What You Need to Shop For
As your morning sickness symptoms will get stronger over the coming weeks, investing in some nice incense sticks or teas might be beneficial for you. Get a gentle scrub and moisturiser to keep your skin smooth and healthy. Start reading books or articles around pregnancy and baby development.
Hearing twin heartbeats at seven weeks might be possible for some women, and that feeling is utterly precious. To see your babies growing safely is something that can instantly turn a woman into a mother, and boost your confidence about taking care of your children in the right manner.

Newborn Baby Sleeping Too Much - Do I Need to Worry
Babies are such angelic beings, radiating some serious pick-me-up and cuddle me vibes until they start screaming. Then it is a frantic run to feed, change diapers and in general to do whatever it takes to calm them down. And that is how most of us expect babies to be! However, there are times when your baby is being really calm and prefers sleeping to feeding, and it is making you a bit anxious. Read on to find if that should be a cause for worry or if your baby is just a good sleeper.
How Much Sleep Should A Newborn Baby Get In A Day
Newborns do sleep a lot, and it is something they did for most of the time back in the womb. Back then they were surrounded by sounds of the mother’s heartbeat, digestive system and her voice. In such sleep-inducing conditions, they hit the snooze mode 90%-95% of the day. Once outside of the womb, newborns continue to sleep for 16 to 18 hours a day, waking up every two to three hours for a feed or diaper change. The hours of sleep can slightly vary since each baby is unique and has different needs. Newborns sleep a lot because their bodies are rapidly growing and sleep is essential for their proper mental and physical development, especially development of the brain and central nervous system. Therefore, it is safe to say that newborns spend around 80%-85% of the day sleeping and there are no hard and fast rules as to the number of hours a baby needs to sleep as long as they are healthy and feeding regularly.
Can Your Infant Sleep Too Much
A baby sleeping all day can be a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, it gives you the time you need to catch up on some rest. However, it can also be the source of anxiety. 'Is my baby sleeping more than usual?' is one question that may ring through your mind. The truth is that it depends on the individual needs of the baby. Some might sleep more while others sleep less, and it is all right as long as they remain healthy. One way to ascertain if the baby is feeding enough is to check their diapers. Their urine shouldn't be too yellow (darker yellow is a sign that baby isn't feeding enough) and there should be an adequate number of stools of the proper colour. An unusually sleepy baby will be cranky and clingy. A baby who does not have these issues might make parents antsy by sleeping too contently (welcome to the world of parenting). It is not a problem unless the sleeping impacts their feeding and health. The number of hours your baby spends sleeping gradually decreases as they grow older. This is good because you do not want a baby that sleeps too much that he/she does not learn to sit up or crawl around.
When You Need To Be Concerned
If you find that the baby is sleeping all day without getting up in between for feeds, it is necessary to stimulate the baby to wake up. Also, if there is a sudden increase in the number of hours spent sleeping, you might want to look into it for any health issues. But keep in mind that growth spurts in babies can also make them sleepier than usual. By the time the baby is two months old, he /she is likely to sleep longer during the night and stay awake longer during the daytime. This enables them to learn skills such as crawling, sitting up and gradually more complex tasks such as walking and speaking. So, if your three months or older baby is sleeping too much and is hardly up, you might want to consult a paediatrician.
What To Do If Your Baby Is Sleeping More Than Usual
If your maternal instincts tell you that the baby is sleeping more than what is required, a consultation with the baby's paediatrician would be the best thing to do. Check-up on the baby's health, since jaundice and other infections, can make the baby tired and sleep more. Medical procedures such as circumcision can also make the baby sleepier than usual. No matter what, make sure that you get to feed your baby. Do this even if you have to wake them up.
When To Wake Up Your Sleepy Baby For The Feeding
Newborns initially lose their birth weight but gain it back within the first week and then continue to gain weight at a healthy pace. But if have a baby who is lacking in the weight gain department, it indicates that they are not feeding enough, and hence your doctor might suggest that the baby is woken up at intervals (every 3-4 hours) and fed. But it will be a few weeks before the paediatrician has enough data to ensure the weight gain is optimum until then you will have to rely on your gut feelings to wake the baby up and feed him/her after a couple of hours.
How To Wake Up Your Infant For Feeding
It's never a good idea to wake someone up abruptly, even if it is your calm sleeping baby, they might end being cranky and non-cooperative. If you find your 3 months baby sleeping too much, here are some smooth tricks to gently wake them up:
1. Unswaddle The Baby
Sometimes a little less warmth is all that is required get a sleeping baby to wake up. Babies are usually put to bed all swaddled up and cosy, so when it is time for them to wake up try taking off their blanket and loosening their clothing. The exposure to cool air and the physical stimulation of being undressed will bring them to open their eyes.
2. Change Their Diapers
A slight disturbance in their sleeping position or a light freshening up can help to wake the baby. Hence, changing diapers or wiping their bum can wake them up.
3. Stroke The Baby's Back
Running your fingers along their back while feeding will keep them from falling asleep before they are full. They tend to fall asleep while feeding, due to the extra cosy effect created by the warmth of the mother’s presence and embrace.
4. Place The Baby On A Firmer Surface
Remove them from their cradle and keep them on a firmer surface such as a play mat. This can make them feel more vulnerable and hence wake them up.
5. Pick Up The Baby
Gently pick up the baby and stroke the babies' cheeks and foot. This slight disturbance will likely stimulate them to wake up.
6. Blow In Baby's Faces
Try blowing gently on the baby's face; the flow of air will awaken the baby (but be prepared to get a weird look from your baby!)
7. Give The Baby A Bath
This is a more drastic measure, wiping the baby's body with a wet, warm washcloth will definitely perk up the little sleepyhead.
Sleeping patterns vary from one baby to another, just as their personalities. Therefore, a baby sleeping more, need not necessarily ring bells of alarms, unless it affects their health. Parenting is a learning curve, you learn and unlearn as your baby grows up and you get tuned into baby's requirements. Something that helps a lot is your maternal instinct, which tells you if something is affecting the baby. So if your newborn is a sweet little being who loves to sleep, you might as well enjoy the calm while it lasts.

5 Unhealthy Things That Silently Spoil your Fitness Plan
Losing weight is an eternal battle. We resort to so many different diets and fitness plans in that search for the perfect figure. But without realising it, we sometimes resort to unhealthy ways to lose weight which undo all the good that exercise does!
When it comes to losing weight and working out, getting to the gym is just half the battle. There are so many other things you need to pay an equal amount of attention to like maintaining your posture and getting proper nutrition. There are unhealthy ways to lose weight and if you aren’t careful, you could end up piling on the kilos all over again.
Major Weight Loss Mistakes you Can’t Afford to Make
1. Not eating enough
Many people tend to starve themselves or eat less to lose weight. If you think that less food means more weight loss, that’s simply not true! Calories give us energy and starving yourself is a very unhealthy way to lose weight. Eating right and in moderation is the right way to trim down.
2. Not resting enough
Your body needs to recover and rest in order to repair muscles and help them develop. Overusing them can lead to injury, loss of appetite and fatigue. Take your rest days seriously and go for a walk or take the kids to the park. Relax a little.
3. Not varying your workout
Routine gets monotonous for everyone, including your body. You need to mix it up. This is the whole point of varied goals each day. Not mixing your sets is a bad way to lose weight. Put your body through new and challenging activities such as zumba, spinning, yoga and water aerobics.
4. Not incorporating resistance training in your routine
In between your daily goals, don't forget resistance training (also called weight training). Combined with diet control, it can help you lose weight and preserve and build lean muscle mass. Try out some weight-lifting around the house to start off with. Be careful not to over-exert.
5. Not drinking enough water
Water is a very important part of your fitness routine as well as your daily life. It helps build muscles and provides you with increased stamina and better health. Make a habit to drink at least 6 to 8 eight glasses of water in a day. When exercising, sip water in between to make up for lost fluids. Remember to start your day with a glass of warm water and a twist of lemon and honey.
Health and fitness should be made priorities, for mommies and non-mommies alike. Don't let life get in the way of health. Don’t be a victim! Whether you want to work out to tone up or lose weight or just keep fit, avoid these mistakes and learn to exercise right. Read more
